Rijeka – Split
Train from Rijeka to Split is a route that connects the biggest cities of Istria and Dalmatia region. The route is operated by Hrvatske Željeznice with up to 3 daily departures. However, there are no direct trains from Rijeka to Split, all departures require one or more train changes.
NOTE: All departures include a train change in Oštarije, but on some departures the train doesn’t continue the same day!
The train departs from Rijeka Main Train Station located close to the centre of Rijeka. The train arrives at Split Main Train Station close to the city centre of Split, right next to the main bus station and the ferry port. The train makes a stop at more than 30 railway stations in between.
Taking a bus from Rijeka to Split is a far more convenient way of travelling this route. There are up to 9 daily departures, including a night bus. Tickets start from €20 and the journey takes around 8 hours.

Types of trains
There are two types of trains operating the route – InterCity (IC) trains and regular trains. However, these trains are always combined in a single departure. Usually, the first part is operated by regular trains and the rest is operated by Intercity trains.
Remember, the train change in Oštarije sometimes means you continue your journey tomorrow, not the same day.
The waiting time on other departures takes from a few minutes to 2 hours. Accordingly, the overall journey takes approximately 7-26 hours.
NOTE: In some cases, passengers who bought a train ticket might be transferred by bus instead, either some part or the entire route. This happens when a certain part of the railway on the route is under construction, which is highly influenced by the air temperature. Summer heats can cause the railway to extend which leads to malfunctions, while extremely low temperatures in winter shrink the railway which can lead to breakage.

A regular price of a one-way ticket is around 214 HRK (~ €28).
Children between the age of 6 and 12, students and seniors have a 50% discount while youth between the age of 12 and 26 have a 30% discount.
