The famous train Orient Express arrives in Split, Croatia
In one of the future projects, the famous train from Italy will include Croatia on its routes. Namely, the luxurious Orient Express train which was started 150 years ago by Georges Nagelmackers will operate again. This time, one of the routes starting from Italy will also include Croatia.
It is a luxury railway tourism project that is being realized in cooperation with the investors Arsenale SpA and the hotel Accor group, and the first train Orient Express La Dolce Vita will welcome its first passengers in 2023.
The six trains will offer several itineraries, including three international destinations from Rome to Paris, Istanbul and Split. The concept of the new Orient Express La Dolce Vita trains pays homage to the historical period of glamor, joie de vivre and artistic glow in Italy during the 1960s, and the journeys will be complemented by Accor Group hotel facilities at various train destinations.
In 2024, there will be the first Orient Express Minerva hotel in Rome. At the same time, there will be two hotels in Split – boutique Hotel MGallery Fermai opened in 2021 and the first Mövenpick hotel in Croatia which is planned to be open in spring 2023.
The route Rome – Venice – Split includes the coastal ride, from Venice to Trieste, by the Dalmatian coast all the way to Split. Therefore, the train follows part of the historic Orient Express route.
The organizers state in their announcement:
“The journey continues along the Dalmatian coast, overlooking the sea and islands, and finally the train with great style arrives in Split, a city known for its fine arts and culture.”
They further invite passengers to embark on a journey through the beautiful Italian and Croatian landscapes.
However, the train was primarily designed to promote everything that bears the stamp “Made in Italy”. It is also designed to promote the environmentally friendly adventure of “slow tourism”, which explores forgotten roads, discovers hidden treasures and architecture. Sustainability will also be implemented with the use of green and innovative technologies, such as hydrogen energy to reduce the impact on the environment, and the gastronomic part will offer local products and wines.
